The intermittent nature of this condition is weird, but why not focus on a possible defect in that aftermarket pipe as an issue Dec 18, 2012. #18. A head gasket failure would generally present with VERY different symptoms. Overheating, severe coolant loss, maybe oil loss, white exhaust smoke, etc. A blown/damaged/leaking element in the PCV system would explain the sound, lack of power, and (new) oil smell symptom I was thinking loss of boost and loud sucking noise could be attributed to bad hoses, but puking degas too?
